
One of India’s greatest kabaddi star, Ajay Takur, will be among the four expert witnesses for the Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt for kabaddi in Panchkula on 24 March, 2024.
Ajay, who has won multiple international accolades in the sport, including the Indian team to the Asian Games gold, will be joined by senior kabaddi practitioners Dr Ishwar Angadi, Dr Manjunatha SK and Dr Basavaraj Ambiger as expert witnesses for the attempt.
The GWR attempt is jointly organised by World Kabaddi and our global partners the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA) at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula. It is being held in conjunction with the World Kabaddi Day celebrations.
The record attempt is for the greatest number of people to actively participate in an ongoing exhibition match of the same game of kabaddi in the same venue, will be made.A total of 154 players will be involved in this challenge. If successful, it would be the first ever attempt made in India for the sport.
The governor of Haryana, H.E. Bandaru Dattatrey will be the chief guest at the celebrations. This year’s World Kabaddi Day has a women centric theme: Kabaddi created by men, perfected by women.
The world record attempt will begin at 10.30am and is expected to conclude approximately at 1.30pm.
Ajay’s inclusion as one of the expert witness will add depth to the effort as his credentials in kabaddi is unparalleled, having also been awarded the Arjuna and Padma Shri awards for his contribution to kabaddi by the Indian government.
Dr Ishwar, the other expert witness was a senior kabaddi coach at SAI Bangalore and later Head of its Dharwad Center before his retirement.
He has post-graduate qualifications, namely Masters in Physical Education and Doctorate in Sports Psychology.
Was a former player and coached various state teams and was also the national team coach of Malaysia.
Dr Manjunatha is also a former kabaddi player and coach and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Physical Education at the Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences.
As for Dr Basavaraj, he is also a former player and coach and currently attached as the College Director of Physical Education and Sport at the Collegiate and Technical Education, Karnataka.
