World Kabaddi was formed on 24th March 2018 and currently has more than 52 members and is rapidly growing in all five continents.

While Asian countries have been dominating the sports previously, kabaddi has taken root in various new regions including countries like New Zealand, England, Argentina, Mauritius, Australia, Poland, Kenya, Tanzania, Mexico, Hong Kong and USA.

Kabaddi originated in India some 5,000 years ago. It is one of the select traditional sports that has grown in stature as a mainstream sport.

The organisation hopes to double its membership by 2020 with special attention in promoting the game outside the Asian region.

It was included as a medal sport at the Asian Games since 1990 and was even included as an unofficial demonstration sport during the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Efforts to promote and develop kabaddi is being carried out through the regional bodies namely Kabaddi Africa, Kabaddi Asia, Kabaddi Europe, Kabaddi Oceania and Kabaddi Pan America.

World Kabaddi is registered in the United Kingdom and its headquarters and secretariat is based in Kuala Lumpur.

In November 2020, World Kabaddi received its affiliation from The Association For International Sports for All (TAFISA).
